How to Maximize Your Performance
How do you maximize your own performance? Are you reactively chasing targets, KPIs and OKRs, or are you mastering the process for achieving those results consistently?
I love this quote from New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor. He’s coming back from a rough first season in New York, his worst in the majors, on the heels of signing a record-breaking contract last year.
Look at how he’s shifting his focus as he approaches this season:
“Do whatever it takes to focus on the process, play the game right, do every single little detail right and good things will happen.
Focus on that process. Don’t focus on all the results and what things are being said. Just focus on playing the game. You’re here to play the game. If you do that on a daily basis, life will definitely slow down, and you’ll be fine.”
This is about preparation, technique and mindset, as opposed to outcomes, metrics and stats.
He’s adopting a mastery orientation, focusing on his capacity to produce and perform instead of the “production” itself. It’s an emphasis on “how” he performs vs. “what” he does.
