Want to Improve Your Performance? Stop trying to MEASURE EVERYTHING!
Want to see big improvements in how well you perform?
Stop chasing outcomes, and stop trying to MEASURE EVERYTHING! !
How do you want to FEEL when you’re performing?
When’s the last time you focused on the experience of performing vs. the result you were chasing?
For me, it was this past weekend on something as simple as riding on my bike trainer.
When I ignored the data (there’s plenty of it when you ride) and focused on how I chose to feel during the ride, my performance improved.
That’s what I could control – how I felt. Did I want to go all out and empty the tank, or did I want to hold back and leave something in reserve?
Watts, speed, RPM… they are just results. I could attain them in a moment and then exhaust myself for the rest of the ride, unable to perform.
Focusing on how I felt brought joy back to the ride (even on an indoor trainer).
At the end of the ride, I did not know how I “did.” I only knew how I “felt.”
And for the first time in a while, I felt really good!
Try this approach with your personal and professional goals. Forget about chasing a result or an outcome. Focus on mastering the process of how you’ll get there.
