What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?
Have you ever held back or played small because of fear? Most people have.
Here’s the thing – there’s no TRUTH in what you’re fearing. Right now, in this moment, it’s just an ILLUSION. It hasn’t happened yet.
Fear comes from your projection of a future where you anticipate a negative outcome.
Fear is draining and limiting. It’s a distraction. It causes tentativeness, so you hesitate and hold back and don’t play full out.
Fearlessness, on the other hand, allows you to lead and perform to your full potential.
But don’t confuse fearlessness – having no fears – with courage. Courage is acting despite your fears.
Nelson Mandela said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave (person) is not (the one) who does not feel afraid, but…who conquers that fear.”
“Triumph” and “conquer.” This takes effort and energy. Courage is a state of doing.
Overcoming your fears is certainly preferable to letting them stop you. It’s a great path to growth. But imagine how the effort expended in overcoming your fears – mental, emotional, and physical effort – could have been directed toward action if you were fearless.
Fearlessness is a way of being.
Consider the quote from Greg Norman in the image here. He isn’t battling or overcoming. He is simply being fearless and directing all his power toward mastering his performance on the golf course.
